I-C-E = In Case of Emergency

I-C-E = In Case of Emergency

As our Gulf Coast Men in Mission promote...ministry is experienced in a myriad of ways. One of God's call to men is to tend to the family; to provide nurture and protection. This message was shared to me by a good friend of many years. It is self-explanatory.

The below message is provided for your consideration and implementation as a personal protection measure. ICE is a simple and practical idea that is easily accomplished.

The ICE Campaign - "In Case of Emergency"

We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory but nobody, other than ourselves, knows which of these numbers belong to our closest family or friends. If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence the "ICE" (In Case of Emergency) Campaign.

The concept of "ICE" is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As cell phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name "ICE" (In Case Of Emergency).

The idea was promoted by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn't know which number to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name for this purpose. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as "ICE".

For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3, etc. Be sure it's in your kid's cell phones also.

So what are you waiting for? This is too easy. Program your cell phone with an ICE number today!

ICE is a great idea. I'm a medic and there have been quite a few times over the past 10-12 years that a simple phone number could have helped out tremendously.

Another thing that is extremely handy is keeping a simple list of ones medications, medical history, and allergies in your wallet. Also, on this list it helps to have your name, address, phone, date of birth, and Social Security Number. This is especially helpful if you have a loved one who has an extensive history or takes numerous medications. Do you know them all by heart? How well are you under stress at recalling long words that are hard to pronounce and much less spell. Now, imagine trying to recall this information after you just had to call 911 for a loved one.

This is good information to have handy for everyone in your house. So that when the medics do arrive who don't have to stress about recalling all the information. All you have to do is hand the medics this paper with the demographics and medical information.

Many pharmacies have free pre-printed forms/cards that you can fill out. A popualar program that helps people with this information is "The Vile of Life". It includes what looks like a medicine bottle that has a form with this information and is put in the freezer where it is easily seen. It also comes with a sticker to go your refridgerator/freezer to let the medics know it is there.

Also, keep it all up to date.

And may you never need to use this tool or have to call 911. But if do call for yourself or someone else, you are better prepared.

God's Grace & Peace.
